Our local chapter of Friends of the Library supports the library in its mission to offer excellent services to our residents and visitors. The group's efforts began even before the opening of the library on April 14, 1999 and continue today in a variety of ways. Members hold ongoing fundraisers including their quarterly Book Sales and they organize special fundraising events such as their successful Kendall-Jackson Golf Tournament and the recent 'Roof Cleaning Project'. Funds from these events provide new titles to the library's collection and support special library events. Members volunteer assistance to the library staff for library projects and for special celebrations such as the annual “birthday party” celebrating the opening of the library. There are two general membership meetings each year for the membership at large and several additional meetings of the Board of Directors each year as projects require. The Board of Directors consists of approximately eighteen men and women of the North Shore of Kaua`i, though the membership at large includes hundreds of members from around the island and even the Mainland. A copy of the Bylaws of the organization is available here. Membership in the Friends of the North Shore Library is easy!
Your membership (only $15 per year for an individual or $25 per year for a family) directly supports the library and entitles you to certain benefits. Among these is the opportunity to shop at the quarterly Book Sales before the general public so you can find the best selection. Another is the satisfying feeling of having done something simple and easy that goes a long way to supporting our community! |
