February 24 - Wednesday Speaker Program - 6:00-7:00 pm - 'Papahanaumokukea Marine National Monument' - speaker Sheri Saari from the Kilauea Point National Wildlife Refuge will discuss her recent stay at the Papahanaumokukea Marine National Monument in the Nortwest Hawaiian Islands.

Sabra Kauka, Hawaiian Studies kumu, will be speaking on the ipu (Hawaiian gourd) which was brought to Hawaii by the first people to arrive in double hulled canoes. She will show various types and demonstrate the use of the ipu heke (double gourd) used by hula practitioners.

March 31 - Webnesday Speaker Program - 6:00-7:00 pm - The Riddle of the Reefs: Using Massive Corals to Decipher the History of El Nino Events in the Equatorial Pacific -- The speaker will be Dr. Graham Shimmield, President and Executive Director of the Bigelow Laboratory for Ocean Sciences in West Boothbay Harbor, Maine.

Sue Arnold
, CEO of the California Grey Whale Coalition will discuss the California Gray Whale, the most ancient baleen whale alive today.

July 14 - Wednesday Speaker Program - 6:00-7:00pm - 'The Voyages of the Holopuni'
A talk & slide show presented by Nick Beck, a founder of the Hanalei Hawaiian Civic Canoe Club and the Hawaiian Canoe Sailing Association. Nick was the first person in modern times to sail an outrigger canoe linking all the Hawaiian islands from hawaii to Niihau.
July 17 - Saturday

Children's Storytime - 2:00-2:15 pm - "Where's Mama?" - Presented by the Purple Striped Honu Theatre for Kids, this show portrays an adventure of a baby monk seal as it encounters various land and sea creatures while searching for its mother. For ages 2-10.

August 11 - Wednesday Speaker Program - 6:00-7:00pm - Author of Rainbows Over Kapa'a, Bill Fernandez, will tell of the five generations of his family who settled in the east side of Kaua’i in the little town of Kapa’a and eventually built the Roxy Theater.

Fish & Wildlife Service Logo

Children's Storytime - 11:00-11:30am - The Friends of the North Shore Library in collaboration with the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service will be hosting this keiki storytime at the Princeville Library. The topic, presented by a Kilauea Point Ranger, will be "Bird Watching & Wildlife Observations". In addition to the presentation, keiki will be participating in a fun craft project that they’ll be able to take home with them after the event. The “Friends” invite everyone in the community to the Princeville Public Library to enjoy this fun-filled & informative presentation on Saturday, August 14th at 11:00am. Free and open to the public, parents and children – residents and visitors - are encouraged to attend. As a special bonus, all attendees will gain free admission to the Kilauea Lighthouse on August 14 and 15th!

September 8 - Wednesday Speaker Program - 6:00-7:00 pm - 'Hale Halawai 'Ohana O Hanalei' - Hanalei's community center, Hale Halawai 'Ohana O Hanalei, was founded following hurricane Iniki. It is a non-profit organization which provides space, including a commercial kitchen, for people in the community to hold classes, social gatherings and meetings. They sponsor the Hanalei Farmers Market and the Halele'a Cultural Expoloration Program for young people. A slide show of recent activities will be shared. Please join us to learn more about how HHOOH serves the community and how you or your organization might use this wonderful community resource.

Storytime with Phyllis Kopeck -- The Theme will be FRIENDS AND FAMILY and will include a take home craft project for all children.
