Branch Lotspeich will be discussing Rescue Tubes which is a Rotary Club sponsored project. They have been appearing on almost every beach in Kauai.

Speaker Program - 6:00-7:30pm - 'Sugar - Statehood - Sovereignty'image-Bill Fernandez. Presented by Bill Fernandez, author of Rainbows Over Kapaa. How did sugar plantations gain control of so much land?  Why was the monarchy overthrown?  Did native Hawaiians agree to annexation/statehood?  Why did Congress find that Hawaii was "…an unjust oppressive, monopolistic economic system…" after investigating the Massie murder case?  What caused the Hawaiian Renaissance in the 1970s and movements for native Hawaiian sovereignty?  Bill Fernandez presents another well-researched history talk and slide show.  Don't miss it!

August 8 - Wednesday Speaker Program - 6:00-7:30 pm - 'Ancient Tamil Poetry from Southern India'. Vaidehi Herbert, author and President of Kolam Charitable Foundation,, a nonprofit organization that supports the Imayam School and other charitable projects in Tamil Nadu, India
Join Kaua`i resident Vaidehi Herbert as she unravels the mysteries of ancient Sangam poetry.  Learn how these poems, which were etched on palm leaves from 300 B.C. to 300 A.D., were lost for almost a thousand years and then found only a century ago.  Discover their historical and literary significance.  Experience their beauty and universal emotions.
