Aloha Friends,
I hope 2010 has blessed you with good health and great spirit.
We have much to celebrate and anticipate in this New Year. In January, we welcomed back our substitute LA III, Mardee Everts-Boone, who was on temporary leave since October. It is a pleasure to have her back on staff, as she was missed during her absence.
Also in January we welcomed a new Board of Directors for the Friends of the North Shore Library at Princeville. I would personally like to thank Barbara Smith, our former president, who was tremendously supportive of me and the library during her term in office. Her efforts to accomplish the many goals the Board of Directors set are truly appreciated, and I look forward to seeing and working with her in her new position as Volunteer Coordinator. She has been invaluable to the Friends and to the Princeville Public Library. A heartfelt (and big!) mahalo to the other former Officers of the Friends of the North Shore Library at Princeville: Susan Dierker, Ann Williams, Laura McConnell, and Emmet DeVille, and to Dotty Nakea for our successful program speakers (I think we need to buy more chairs, given the turn-out these programs have had! ). It has been a pleasure working with all of you, and I look forward to seeing you here at the library.
We welcome the new Board of Directors: Co- Presidents, Joanne Smith and Michal Stover; Vice President, Vicki Van de Veer; Recording Secretary, Ann Williams; Corresponding Secretary, Susan Dierker; and Treasurer, Christine Theis. Thank you for accepting these positions. I am eager to work with you as we continue striving toward our mutual goals.
On behalf of the staff I would also like to extend our thanks to the Friends for the Staff Appreciation Luncheon held in early February. We were treated to an array of delicious homemade salads, meat dishes, and (home baked!) desserts, brought here for us to enjoy. We appreciate all that you do for us, and thank you for recognizing the staff in such a thoughtful and generous way.
Speaking of good food, fellowship and fun, we are in the midst of planning our big 11th Birthday Bash in April! Wow ... already??? It is my pleasure and honor to be here to celebrate this milestone! Plans are underway for a truly memorable event. We will have great entertainment by Naomi Yokotake and her halau, featuring keiki and adult hula, and birthday refreshments will be served on the lanai. Thank you to all who are involved in planning this April 17th event.
As I sit and type my Librarian’s message, what always comes to mind is how fortunate we are to have such a successful library here on the North Shore. We continue to do well in our monthly circulation statistics thanks to the ongoing patronage of the community and the support from new and returning visitors. Thank you for growing with us, and for giving us a reason to be here. It is our pleasure to serve you, and we hope to continue to do so for many years to come.
Sincerely,
Jennifer Relacion
