E-mail Notification
You can now receive e-mail notices to alert you of reserved and overdue items instead of receiving post cards.

To receive e-mail notices, patrons may visit any public library, present their valid Library card and PIN, and staff will start the notification process.

Patrons may also register for this option online, must go in-person to any HSPLS Library to activate their account. Here are the steps to sign up online:

  1. Visit www.librarieshawaii.org, click on My Account on the sidebar;
  2. Enter your library card barcode and PIN number to login;
  3. Select and click on Profile from the menu;
  4. Scroll down to E-mail Information. Enter the email address where you want to receive your library notices. If you already have an e-mail address enterred, please double-check it. Enter any corrections or changes, if necessary;
  5. Click on Update and logout;
  6. Go to any HSPLS Library Circulation Desk to activiate e-mail notices for your account. Show you Library card and provide your PIN to the staff for verfication.
Important: Please note that you are responsible for setting any spam filters to allow such notices to be delivered.

Just visit the Hawaii State Public Library System web site. Here's how.

Open your web browser and go to http://www.librarieshawaii.org. This is the "Home Page" for the State Library System. Notice the six links along the top the page, followed by four more below them.

The about HSPLS link provides information about the state library system including newsletters, employment, and various friends of the library groups.

The branches link provides a listing of all 51 Hawaii State Public Libraries, including addresses, hours and phone numbers.

The catalogs & databases link provides access to online catalog to search for items in the library collection, database research, e-books (books to download to your personal computer), and online newspapers. Requesting a book for future pick up is also available at this location as well as information about your account including: fines, items on hold, and current checkouts.

The database search provides access to over 70 separate databases containing the full text of tens of thousands of articles, magazines, reference books, and other publications. Detailed coverage includes health and medicine, agriculture, auto repair, business, college planning, computers, current events, genealogy, general reference, philosophy, religion, and much more. There is also a full text of both the Funk and Wagnall's and the World Book Online encyclopedias. There are some areas tailored to the specific needs of elementary, middle and junior high school students. To access the databases, you will need your ten digit Library card number.

The services link provides information on programs, library rules and policies, and the ability to reserve a computer.

The ask a librarian link provides F.A.Q. information, as well as online or phone reference access.

Click on the my account link -- login, and you will then be able to access personal information about your account. You will need to enter the ten digit barcode number on your library card and your PIN. The PIN is the last four digits of the telephone number you provided when you registered for your library card. This number can be changed at the “Profile” link after accessing “my account” for the first time.

hot picks provides titles that are selected each month by the Hawaii State Public Library System's Hot Picks Committee.
